Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales facts for kids
Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales is a special group of seven museums across Wales. It is supported by the Welsh Government. This organization helps us learn about the history, art, and culture of Wales.
The museums are:
- National Museum Cardiff
- St Fagans National Museum of History in Cardiff
- Big Pit National Coal Museum in Blaenavon
- National Wool Museum in Dre-fach Felindre near Llandysul
- National Slate Museum in Llanberis
- National Roman Legion Museum in Caerleon
- National Waterfront Museum in Swansea
Amgueddfa Cymru also runs Oriel y Parc. This is a gallery in St David's that shows Welsh landscape art. They work with the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority for this. The National Collections Centre in Nantgarw is where the museums store many of their items.
How Many People Visit the Museums?
Millions of people visit the museums of Amgueddfa Cymru each year. In 2017, over 1.89 million visitors explored these sites. The most popular museum that year was St Fagans. In 2016, the National Museum Cardiff had the most visitors.
