Ivory is a small, quiet place in Howard County, Maryland, in the United States. It's not a big city or town with its own government. Instead, it's an unincorporated community, which means it's part of the county but doesn't have its own local leaders. You can find Ivory between the areas of Glenelg and West Friendship.

History

Ivory has a long history. It was once home to a large property owned by Enoch Selby. On his land, there was a special church building called a "Chapel of Ease," which was built way back in 1750.

The community of Ivory got its own post office on July 4, 1886. This was a big deal because it made sending and receiving mail much easier for the people living there. William V. Sheppard was the person in charge of the post office, called the postmaster, until 1918.

Today, some parts of the original Ivory Road still exist. However, much of the old road has been covered by a bigger highway, Route 32. The path that used to go through the heart of Ivory is now part of the Maryland Broadband Network. This network helps bring fast internet to different parts of the state.
