J. August Richards, born Jaime Augusto Richards III on August 28, 1973, is an American actor. He is famous for playing Charles Gunn in the TV show Angel. He also played Mike Peterson, who became Deathlok, in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..

Early Life of J. August Richards
J. August Richards grew up in Bladensburg, Maryland. His family has roots in Afro-Panama. He went to Suitland High School, where he studied visual and performing arts. After high school, he received a scholarship to attend the USC School of Dramatic Arts.
J. August Richards' Acting Career
Richards started his acting career when a casting director noticed him. This led to his first TV role on The Cosby Show in 1988. He played Roy, Vanessa's boyfriend. After this, he appeared in many other TV shows. These included The Practice, Chicago Hope, and Nash Bridges.
His role as Taj Mahal in the play Space brought him more attention. He played a bike messenger who thought he was taken by aliens.
Famous TV Roles

J. August Richards became well-known for his role as Charles Gunn in the TV series Angel. Gunn was a street-smart vampire hunter. Richards started as a recurring character in the first season. He became a main cast member from the second season until the show ended.
He also played Mike Peterson in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. His character later became the superhero Deathlok. This role was a big part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on TV.
Other Notable Appearances
Richards has appeared in movies like Good Burger and Why Do Fools Fall in Love. He was also in TV movies such as Critical Assembly. He played singer Richard Street in the miniseries The Temptations.
He has played a lawyer in several TV shows. In Angel, his character Gunn became a lawyer. He also played a lawyer in Conviction and CSI: Miami. Richards also appeared in two episodes of Grey's Anatomy. He played a younger version of the character Richard Webber. He also had guest roles in The Mentalist and Warehouse 13.
In 2013, Richards created his own science fiction web series called The Hypnotist.
