John-Blair Bickerstaff (born March 10, 1979) is a professional basketball coach from the United States. He is currently the head coach for the Detroit Pistons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Before joining the Pistons, he led the Memphis Grizzlies and the Cleveland Cavaliers. He also worked as an assistant coach for many other NBA teams.

Playing Basketball in College
J. B. Bickerstaff played college basketball for two different schools. He started his college career at Oregon State University. After two seasons there, he moved to the University of Minnesota. In his final year at Minnesota, he played as a forward. He averaged about 11 points and 6 rebounds per game.
Becoming an NBA Coach
J. B. Bickerstaff began his coaching journey in the NBA in 2004. He started as an assistant coach. Over the years, he worked for several teams.
Early Assistant Coach Roles
Bickerstaff first joined the Charlotte Bobcats as an assistant coach. He stayed with them for three seasons, from 2004 to 2007. After that, he moved to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He worked as an assistant coach there for four seasons, from 2007 to 2011.
Time with the Houston Rockets
On July 14, 2011, Bickerstaff became an assistant coach for the Houston Rockets. In November 2015, the Rockets' head coach, Kevin McHale, was fired. Bickerstaff was then chosen to be the interim head coach. This meant he would lead the team temporarily. His first game as interim coach was a victory against the Portland Trail Blazers. After that season, Bickerstaff decided not to apply for the permanent head coach job. This ended his time with the Rockets.
Coaching the Memphis Grizzlies
In June 2016, Bickerstaff joined the Memphis Grizzlies. He started as an associate head coach. In November 2017, the Grizzlies' head coach, David Fizdale, was fired. Bickerstaff was again promoted to interim head coach. On May 1, 2018, the Grizzlies officially named him their permanent head coach. However, his time as head coach ended in April 2019. The team did not make it to the playoffs that season.
Leading the Cleveland Cavaliers
In May 2019, Bickerstaff moved to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was hired as an assistant and associate head coach. In February 2020, the Cavaliers' head coach, John Beilein, stepped down. Bickerstaff was then announced as the new head coach. The Cavaliers signed him to a multi-year contract. In December 2021, he received another contract extension. Bickerstaff coached the Cavaliers until May 2024, when he was fired.
Coaching the Detroit Pistons
On July 3, 2024, J. B. Bickerstaff became the new head coach of the Detroit Pistons. He continues his career leading NBA teams.

J. B. Bickerstaff comes from a basketball family. His father is Bernie Bickerstaff, who is also a well-known former NBA coach. Bernie Bickerstaff currently works for the Cleveland Cavaliers as a senior basketball advisor.
