J. Edward Roush Lake is a large reservoir located in Huntington, Indiana, United States. A reservoir is a man-made lake built to store water. Why the Lake Was Renamed

The lake was originally known as the Huntington Reservoir. It was later renamed J. Edward Roush Lake. This was done to honor J. Edward Roush for his positive impact on the local area.

J. Edward Roush was an important person in government. He served as a State Representative and State Senator in Indiana. He also worked in the U.S. House of Representatives, which is part of the national government.

The J. Edward Roush Lake Dam

The J. Edward Roush Lake Dam was finished in 1968. Its main jobs are to control floods and provide a place for recreation. The dam is quite large. It stands about 91 feet (28 meters) high. It stretches for about 6,500 feet (1,981 meters) across.

The dam can hold a lot of water. Its maximum capacity is 153,100 acre-feet (0.189 km³). Its normal capacity is 12,500 acre-feet (0.015 km³).

Who Manages the Lake

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) helps manage the public land around Roush Lake. They work together with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. These two groups manage Roush Lake and seven other lakes in Indiana.

Roush Lake is part of a group called the Upper Wabash Reservoirs. The other two lakes in this group are Salamonie and Mississinewa lakes. The DNR takes care of the fun recreational areas and wildlife spots. They do this under an agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Corps of Engineers is in charge of the dams themselves. They also watch and control the lake's water levels.
