The J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts is a big, modern building in St. Charles, Missouri. It's located on the campus of Lindenwood University. This amazing place opened in 2008. It cost $32 million to build and is about 138,000-square-foot (12,800 m2) in size.

The center is a special spot for both education and performing arts. This means students can learn here, and people can enjoy plays, concerts, and art shows. The building is named after Jerry Scheidegger. He is a local businessman and a member of the Lindenwood board. He gave a generous $2 million donation to help build the center.

Awesome Performance Spaces

The J. Scheidegger Center has several fantastic areas for performances. Each one is designed for different types of shows.

Lindenwood Family Theater

This is the biggest performance area in the center. The Lindenwood Family Theater has 1,200 seats! These seats are on two different levels. It's a high-tech theater, much like those you would see on Broadway. It's perfect for large and exciting shows.

Emerson Black Box Theatre

The Emerson Black Box Theatre is a smaller, more flexible space. It has 250 seats. A "black box" theater means it's a simple, dark room. This design allows for many different kinds of performances. It's often used for experimental shows. The stage can even be moved around! This means the theater can change to fit each unique production.

The Boyle Art Gallery

Beyond performances, the center also celebrates visual art. The Boyle Art Gallery is a large, modern space. It shows off artwork from students at Lindenwood University. You can also see art from local and international artists here. It's a great place to explore different styles of art.

Learning and Creativity Hub

The J. Scheidegger Center is not just for shows. It's also a major learning center for students. It has many classrooms and offices for teachers.

This center is the home of the School of Fine and Performing Arts. Students here learn about acting, music, dance, and more.

Inside, you'll find:

  • A large scene shop: This is where sets for plays are built.
  • A costume shop: Here, amazing costumes for performances are created.
  • Two dance studios: These studios have special digital recording tools. Dancers can record their moves and watch them right away to improve!
  • LUTV's Charter HD Studio: This is a modern TV studio. It's used for talk shows, news, weather, and Lindenwood Lions sports. The shows are aired on local TV channels.
