Johannes Pietsch (born 29 April 2001), known by his stage name JJ, is a talented singer and songwriter from Austria. He became famous when he won the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 for Austria. His winning song was called "Wasted Love". He wrote this song with help from Teya and Thomas Thurner.

JJ's Early Life and Music Beginnings
Johannes Pietsch was born in Vienna, Austria. His father was an IT specialist from Austria, and his mother was a cook from the Philippines. He spent his childhood in Dubai. There, he discovered two very different types of music: pop and opera. His family's karaoke parties introduced him to pop music. His father helped him learn about opera. Both of these styles have influenced the unique pop-opera sound he has today. In 2016, his family moved back to Austria.
JJ's Musical Journey and Career
Starting Out in TV Music Shows
In 2020, JJ took part in the ninth season of The Voice UK. He had wanted to join The Voice of Germany but missed the deadline. On The Voice UK, he made it to the Knockouts round. His coach was the famous musician will.i.am.
The next year, he joined the fifth season of Starmania, which is another TV music competition. He reached the first final show in that competition. JJ also studies music at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna. Before that, he attended the opera school of the Vienna State Opera.
Winning Eurovision 2025
On January 30, 2025, the song "Wasted Love" was announced as Austria's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. JJ performed the song under his stage name. The announcement happened during a radio show called Ö3-Wecker on Ö3.
JJ co-wrote "Wasted Love" with Teodora Špirić and Thomas Thurner. Teodora Špirić had also represented Austria in Eurovision in 2023. The song was officially released on March 6, 2025. JJ went on to win the Grand Final of Eurovision on May 17. He received a total of 436 points. This included 178 points from the audience and 258 points from the jury, which was the highest score from the jury.
JJ's Unique Musical Style
JJ's music is special because it mixes parts of opera with pop music. He is a type of singer called a "soprano" countertenor. This means his voice can reach very high notes, similar to a soprano singer. He uses his powerful and emotional voice to explore both pop and opera styles.
