John James Bannon (born June 14, 1940 – died October 25, 2017) was an American actor. He was best known for his role as Art Donovan in the TV show Lou Grant. He played this character for the entire series, from 1977 to 1982.

Early Life of Jack Bannon
Jack Bannon was born on June 14, 1940, in Los Angeles, California. His parents, Jim Bannon and Bea Benaderet, were also actors. He finished his studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1963.
Jack Bannon's Acting Career
When Jack Bannon was 24, he started working as a dialog coach for Petticoat Junction. This was a TV show that his mother starred in. In 1963, he appeared in an episode called "Kate's Recipe for Hot Rhubarb." He played Roger, who was Bobbie Joe's date. Later, in 1969, Bannon was seen again on Petticoat Junction as a character named Buck.
Bannon also played Buck Williams in the TV drama Trauma Center in 1983. He appeared in many other popular TV shows during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. Some of these shows include The Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres, Daniel Boone, Kojak, The Rockford Files, Charlie's Angels, and Simon & Simon.
His most famous role was Art Donovan on Lou Grant. In this show, Art Donovan was a friendly assistant editor at a made-up newspaper called the Los Angeles Tribune. Jack Bannon was in all 114 episodes of the series.
Jack Bannon also acted in movies. His films include What Ever Happened to Aunt Alice? (1969), Little Big Man (1970), and Death Warrant (1990). For 20 years, he also performed on stage with the Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre company.
Jack Bannon's Death
Jack Bannon passed away on October 25, 2017, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He was 77 years old and died from cancer. He was survived by his wife, Ellen Travolta, who is an actress and the older sister of actor John Travolta. He also had a sister and two stepchildren.
