Jack Weston (born Morris Weinstein; August 21, 1924 – May 3, 1996) was an American actor. He was known for playing many different characters in movies and TV shows. He was even nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1976 and a Tony Award in 1981, which are big honors in acting!

Jack Weston's Acting Career

Weston grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. He often played funny characters in movies like Cactus Flower (1969) and Please Don't Eat the Daisies (1960). But he could also play serious roles. For example, he played a scary bad guy in the 1967 movie Wait Until Dark, where he tried to rob a blind woman played by Audrey Hepburn.

Famous Movies and TV Shows

Over 25 years, Jack Weston appeared in many popular films. These included The Cincinnati Kid (1965), The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), and Dirty Dancing (1987). He also starred in Short Circuit 2 (1988), where he played Oscar Baldwin.

On television, he was in many shows. In 1958, he played Fred Calvert in an episode of Perry Mason. He also appeared in Route 66 in 1961. He even co-starred in a show called "The Hathaways" where he and Peggy Cass acted as "parents" to three performing chimpanzees! In 1963, he was a guest star in an episode of The Fugitive.

Awards and Stage Work

In 1976, Jack Weston was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for his role in the movie The Ritz. Later, in 1981, he was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor for his performance in the play The Floating Light Bulb on Broadway. He also acted in other plays like Bells are Ringing (1956) and California Suite (1976).

He also worked with actor and director Alan Alda in the 1981 film The Four Seasons. Weston later played the same role in a TV show based on the movie.

Jack Weston's Early Life and Family

When Jack Weston was 12 years old, he was already performing at the Cleveland Playhouse in a youth program. He also acted in plays at his schools. In 1943, he joined the Army and served for over two years, mostly in Italy.

After the war, he continued acting. He moved to New York City and joined the American Theatre Wing, where he studied acting. He met Marge Redmond, another actress, in Cleveland. They moved to New York and got married in 1950. Marge Redmond was known for her role in the TV show The Flying Nun. They even appeared together in an episode of The Twilight Zone in 1963. They later divorced.

Jack Weston married Laurie Gilkes, and they had one child together. He passed away on May 3, 1996, at the age of 71, after a six-year battle with lymphoma, which is a type of cancer.

Jack Weston's older brother was Anthony Spinelli, who was also an actor. The Weston family was Jewish.
