Marjorie "Marge" Redmond (born December 14, 1924 – died February 10, 2020) was an American actress and singer. She was best known for playing Sister Jacqueline in the popular TV show The Flying Nun.

Growing Up and Starting Out

Marjorie Redmond was born in Cleveland, Ohio in December 1924. She grew up in Lakewood. Her dad, J.V. Redmond, was a fire chief. Her mom's name was Margaret.

Marge first started acting in her high school's drama club, called Barnstormers. After finishing school, she worked in a bank. She was a typist and helped with mail.

Starring on Television

Marge Redmond is probably most famous for her role as Sister Jacqueline. She played this character in The Flying Nun. This show was on ABC from 1967 to 1970.

She was even nominated for an Emmy Award for her role. This was for "Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series" in 1967-1968.

Other TV Appearances

Marge Redmond appeared in many other TV shows. She was on shows like Ben Casey (in 1962) and Law & Order (in 1997). In 1965, she was on Perry Mason. She played Henrietta Hull in an episode called "The Case of the Mischievous Doll."

She also had a repeating role as Mrs. McCardle in Matlock. Marge was on The Munsters twice, playing different characters. She also appeared on Barnaby Jones, Quincy, M.E., The Cosby Show, and The Twilight Zone.

Marge Redmond was also well known for playing Sarah Tucker. Sarah was a wise innkeeper in TV commercials for Cool Whip. These commercials aired during the 1970s.

Marge Redmond's first professional acting jobs were in musicals. She performed with theater groups in the Cleveland area.

She had a long career in theater. She performed with Nancy Walker in a show called Phoenix '55 in 1955. Marge was also an understudy for famous actresses. She was an understudy for Angela Lansbury in the Broadway show Sweeney Todd. She also understudied Judy Holliday in Bells Are Ringing.

In 1988, she even made fun of Angela Lansbury's character, Jessica Fletcher. This was on an episode of Hunter called "Murder, He Wrote."

In 1981, she had a supporting role in the Broadway play The Dresser. This play starred Tom Courtenay. Later, in 1999, Marge Redmond appeared in an Off-Broadway play. It was a comedy called The Exact Center of the Universe. Critics said her performance was "solid and funny."

Her Personal Life

Marge Redmond was the first wife of actor Jack Weston. They got married in 1950. They both worked on their acting skills at the Cleveland Play House.

In 1958, they both left their roles in the Broadway musical Bells Are Ringing. They moved to Los Angeles in an old Volkswagen car. They thought they might have to go back to New York. But they stayed in Los Angeles for 18 years. Both of them became successful in television. Marge and Jack later divorced. Marge Redmond never remarried.

Her Later Years

Marge Redmond passed away in February 2020. She was 95 years old. Her death was not announced to the public until May of that year.
