Jackson Munro Bird is an Australian cricketer. He was born on December 11, 1986. He has played for Australia's national team. Today, he plays first-class cricket for the New South Wales team.

Jackson Bird is known as a fast-medium bowler. This means he bowls the ball quickly. He grew up in Sydney and went to school there. He started his professional career with the Tasmanian Tigers team in the 2011–2012 season.

Jackson Bird's Early Cricket Career

Jackson Bird showed his talent early in his career.

Taking a Hat-trick

In March 2012, Bird achieved a hat-trick while playing against the Western Australia team. This happened at the Bellerive Oval. A hat-trick in cricket means a bowler takes three wickets with three consecutive balls.

He ended that match with impressive figures of 11 wickets for 95 runs. This great performance helped his team, Tasmania, reach the final of the Sheffield Shield.

Playing for Domestic Teams

Jackson Bird has played for several teams in Australia's domestic cricket competitions.

Success in Sheffield Shield

After playing just 10 matches in the Sheffield Shield competition, Bird had already taken 62 wickets. His average was 17.30 runs per wicket. This was one of the best records in the competition's history at that time.

Jackson Bird is not the fastest bowler, but he is very good at making the ball swing. This means the ball moves sideways in the air, making it hard for batters to hit. This skill has made him very successful in domestic cricket.

Playing in the Big Bash League

He also plays in the Big Bash League, which is a popular Twenty20 cricket competition. He plays for the Sydney Sixers team.

In March 2018, Cricket Australia recognized his excellent performance. They included Jackson Bird in their special "Sheffield Shield team of the year."

Jackson Bird's International Career

Jackson Bird has also represented Australia on the international stage.

Test Debut for Australia

Bird was chosen to join the Australian Test Squad in 2012. This was just before the Boxing Day Test match against Sri Lanka at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). He was given his special "Baggy Green" cap, which means he was the 431st player to play Test Cricket for Australia.

In his first Test match, he opened the bowling. He took his first wicket with his tenth ball. He ended up taking two wickets in the first part of the game. In the next Test match in Sydney, Bird was named "man of the match" for taking 7 wickets across both parts of the game.

One Day International Squad

Jackson Bird was also selected for the Australian One Day International (ODI) squad for the first time. This happened on January 19, 2013, before a match against Sri Lanka at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Record as a Substitute Fielder

In January 2017, Bird played as a substitute fielder in a Test match against Pakistan. He took four catches during the match. This equaled a record for the most catches by a substitute fielder in a Test match.
