The Jackson Falls National Register Historic District is a special area that includes the old village center of Jackson, New Hampshire. It has many buildings grouped around where Jackson Village Road crosses the Wildcat River. The district also stretches along Five Mile Circuit Road (also known as Black Mountain Road) and Carter Notch Road, which are both part of New Hampshire Route 16B. Most of the buildings in this area were built between the 1860s and the 1930s. They show how the town grew into a popular summer vacation spot. This historic district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

Jackson Falls: A Historic New Hampshire Village

The town of Jackson was first settled by people in the 1770s. It officially became a town called "Adams" in 1800. Later, in 1828, its name was changed to Jackson. This new name honored President Andrew Jackson.

From Farming to Fun: Jackson's Early Days

At first, people in Jackson mostly farmed the land. But soon, the beautiful mountains and scenery started to attract artists and visitors. By the late 1840s, a small tourism business had begun to grow in the area.

The Rise of a Resort Town

Larger hotels started to be built in Jackson in the 1860s. The town grew even more when the Portland and Ogdensburg Railroad was finished in the 1870s. This made it much easier for tourists to visit. The village center of Jackson Falls grew the most between 1880 and the 1930s.

Important Buildings in Jackson Falls

The village of Jackson Falls has many different kinds of buildings. There are buildings for the town, for churches, for businesses, and for homes. One of the most famous buildings is probably the Wentworth Castle. It sits on the hillside above the Wentworth Hall resort hotel. The castle was finished in 1891 and was designed by an architect from New York named William Bates.

The district also includes Jackson's library building, which was built in 1901. You can also see the old town hall, built in 1897, and a community church from 1846–47. These buildings help tell the story of Jackson's past.
