About Jacky Clark-Chisholm
Her Early Life and Music Journey
Jacky Clark-Chisholm was born on December 29, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan. Her mother was Dr. Mattie Moss-Clark, a well-known gospel music leader. Jacky also has an older brother, Leo Henry Cullum, Jr.
After her parents divorced, her mother married Elbert Clark. This is when Jacky got four younger sisters: Denise, Elbernita ("Twinkie"), Dorinda, and Karen. These five sisters would later form the famous group, The Clark Sisters.
Jacky went to Mumford High School in Detroit and graduated in 1967. Their mother taught them to sing together in their father's church. In 1973, The Clark Sisters released their first album, "Jesus Has A Lot to Give." The group became very popular for their live shows and classic songs. Some of their biggest hits include "Is My Living in Vain" and "You Brought the Sunshine."
Her Solo Music Career
On March 29, 2005, Jacky released her first solo album, Expectancy. She worked with talented producers and songwriters on this album. It was recorded live in Detroit. Her children, Angel and Aaron Chisholm, sang background vocals.
Jacky wanted her album to "minister to the heart and soul." She hoped it would help people who felt hurt while working in the church. Key songs on the album include "Oil of God" and "My Soul Says Yes." Her sister Elbernita "Twinkie" Clark also sang on the song "We Are Overcomers." The Clark Sisters even appeared together on the song "Blessing Me."
In 2014, Jacky released a new single called "My Season." This was her first new music since her 2005 album. In 2020, she released "Feel Good," which featured famous singer Mary J. Blige. Jacky released her second solo album, “Jacky?”, on November 10, 2023. It has 14 songs.
Acting and Performances
Jacky has also performed in many gospel stage plays. These include Lawd Have Mercy and Mama Don’t.
In 2020, an actress named Angela Birchett played Jacky in a TV movie. The movie was called The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel. It told the story of the group.
Her Unique Singing Style
Jacky's sisters are known for their powerful voices. But Jacky is known as the "sweet-voiced" sister. She believes her music helps listeners praise and worship God. She wants her songs to give people space to think about their own connection with God.
