Jacob Holmes (born 14 August 1983) is a former professional basketball player from Australia. He played for 14 seasons in Australia's top basketball league, the NBL.

Playing Basketball Professionally
Starting His Career
Jacob Holmes began his basketball journey at the Australian Institute of Sport. He trained there from 2000 to 2001. This institute helps young athletes become professionals.
Playing for the Adelaide 36ers
Jacob started playing for the Adelaide 36ers in the 2001–02 NBL season. In his very first year, his team won the NBL championship! He played three more seasons with the 36ers.
Time with the South Dragons
After his first time with the 36ers, Jacob joined the South Dragons for the 2006–07 NBL season. He was a great leader for the Dragons. He even became the team captain. In the 2007–08 season, he won the Dragons' MVP (Most Valuable Player) award.
Playing in New Zealand
Jacob also spent some time playing basketball in New Zealand. He played for the Nelson Giants in 2005.
Returning to Adelaide
At the end of the 2007–08 season, Jacob decided to move back home to Adelaide. He rejoined the 36ers. He played for them again until 2011. During the 2010–11 season, he was one of the top players in the league for getting rebounds.
Joining the Townsville Crocodiles
In 2011, Jacob signed with the Townsville Crocodiles. He joined them to help out when their captain was injured. Jacob was a professional basketball player and also studied law at the same time! He played so well that the Crocodiles signed him for two more seasons. He continued to play for them until 2015.
Reaching a Milestone and Retiring
On 16 January 2015, Jacob Holmes played his 400th NBL game. This is a huge achievement for a basketball player! On 7 August 2015, he decided to stop playing professional basketball. He then became the full-time president of the NBL Players Association. In his 407 career games, he averaged about 8.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
Playing for Australia
Jacob Holmes also played for Australia's national basketball team, known as the Australian Boomers.
Winning Championships
He was part of the Boomers team that won the FIBA Oceania Championship in 2005. He also won a gold medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. Both of these wins were against the New Zealand Tall Blacks team.
About Jacob's Life
Jacob has two sisters named Fleur and Victoria. He is married to Conor, and they have a daughter named Addy. Jacob is still involved in basketball. He serves on the board of the Australian Basketball Players' Association.
