Early Baseball Days
Jacob May started his baseball journey in high school. The Cincinnati Reds picked him in the 2010 MLB draft. This was when he was still playing for Lakota West High School in West Chester, Ohio. However, he decided not to sign with them. Instead, he chose to go to Coastal Carolina University. There, he played college baseball for the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.
In 2012, Jacob played summer baseball. He joined the Cotuit Kettleers in the Cape Cod Baseball League. This league is famous for helping young players get better. He even became an all-star in the league that year.
Becoming a Professional Player
The Chicago White Sox chose Jacob May in the third round of the 2013 MLB draft. This was his big step into professional baseball. He first played for the Great Falls Voyagers. Soon after, he moved up to the Kannapolis Intimidators. After that season, he traveled to Australia. He played for the Sydney Blue Sox in the Australian Baseball League.
Climbing the Ranks
Jacob continued to play for different teams. In 2014, he played for the Winston-Salem Dash. The next year, 2015, he joined the Double-A team, the Birmingham Barons. In 2016, he reached the Triple-A level with the Charlotte Knights. These steps are important for players to get ready for the major leagues. The White Sox added him to their main roster after the 2016 season. This meant he was closer to playing in MLB.
Playing in Major League Baseball
On March 28, 2017, Jacob May was named the starting center fielder for the White Sox. This was a big moment for him. However, he only played in 15 games for the team that season. He had 2 hits in 36 tries, with three runs batted in (RBIs) and three walks. Most of that year, he played for the Charlotte Knights again.
On January 11, 2018, the White Sox made a change. They removed Jacob from their main roster. This was to make space for a new pitcher. He played 81 more games for Charlotte. Then, on July 28, 2018, he left the team.
