Jacobo Felipe Carlos Fitz-James Stuart was an important Spanish nobleman. He was born in Paris, France, on February 25, 1773. He held several important titles, including the 5th Duke of Liria and Jérica and the 5th Duke of Berwick.
He was also known as a Grandee of Spain. This was a very high rank for a Spanish noble. It meant he had special privileges and was very close to the royal family.
His Family and Marriage
Jacobo Fitz-James Stuart came from a noble family called FitzJames. His father was Carlos Fitz-James Stuart, the 4th Duke of Liria and Jérica. His mother was Caroline zu Stolberg-Gedern.
On January 24, 1790, Jacobo married María Teresa Fernández de Silva y Palafox. She was born in 1772 and passed away in Florence, Italy, in 1818. María Teresa was the daughter of Pedro Fernández de Silva, who was the 10th Duke of Híjar.
His Children
Jacobo and María Teresa had two sons who survived. Both of their sons later became dukes.
Their first son became the 6th Duke of Liria and Jérica. Their second son later became the 7th Duke. He also became the 14th Duke of Alba, another very important noble title.
Jacobo Fitz-James Stuart passed away in Madrid, Spain, on April 3, 1794. He was only 21 years old.
