Winifred Jacqueline Fraser Bisset (born 13 September 1944) is a famous British actress. She started her film career in 1965. She became well-known in 1968 for her roles in the movies The Detective, Bullitt, and The Sweet Ride. For The Sweet Ride, she was nominated for a Golden Globe award as a promising newcomer.
Throughout the 1970s, Bisset starred in many popular films. These included Airport (1970), Murder on the Orient Express (1974), and The Deep (1977). She also appeared in the French film Day for Night (1973), which won an Academy Award. Her role in Who Is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe? (1978) earned her another Golden Globe nomination.

Bisset was born in Weybridge, Surrey, England. Her father, George Maxwell Fraser Bisset, was a doctor. Her mother, Arlette Alexander, was a lawyer who later became a housewife. Her mother was French and English, and her father was Scottish. During World War II, her mother escaped from the Germans by cycling from Paris and boarding a British ship.
Bisset grew up in a 17th-century cottage near Reading, Berkshire. Her mother taught her to speak French fluently. She went to the Lycée Français de Londres in London. As a child, she took ballet lessons. To pay for acting lessons, she worked as a fashion model. When Bisset was a teenager, her mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Her parents separated in 1968.
Acting Career
Beginning in the 1960s
Bisset's first film appearance was a small, uncredited part in The Knack ...and How to Get It (1965). Her official debut was in Cul-de-sac (1966). She gained more attention in the 1967 film Two for the Road, starring Audrey Hepburn.
She became a mainstream star in 1968. She starred opposite Frank Sinatra in The Detective. That same year, she played Steve McQueen's girlfriend in the hit action film Bullitt. Her role in The Sweet Ride earned her a Golden Globe nomination.
Success in the 1970s
In the 1970s, Bisset became a major international star. She was in the popular disaster film Airport (1970). She also starred in the French film Day for Night (1973), which was highly praised by critics. This role helped establish her as a serious actress in Europe.
She starred with many famous actors in Murder on the Orient Express (1974), which was a huge success. In 1977, she starred in The Deep. She later appeared in films like Miss You Already (2015) with Drew Barrymore and Backstabbing for Beginners (2018) with Ben Kingsley. She continues to act in movies and television, with recent roles in Birds of Paradise (2021) and Loren & Rose (2022).
Personal Life
Jacqueline Bisset has never married and does not have children. She has said in interviews that she felt her acting career was too demanding to also raise a family. She is the godmother of actress Angelina Jolie.
