Jacqueline Hill was a talented English actress. She was born on December 17, 1929, and passed away on February 18, 1993. Many people remember her best for playing Barbara Wright in the popular BBC science fiction TV show Doctor Who. She even came back to Doctor Who in 1980 for an episode called Meglos, where she played a character named Lexa.
Jacqueline Hill's Acting Journey
Jacqueline Hill learned acting at the famous Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Her first big stage role was in London's West End in a play called The Shrike.
She then appeared in many other plays and TV shows. Some of her early television roles included Shop Window, Fabian of the Yard, and An Enemy of the People.
Her Family Life
In 1958, Jacqueline married a director named Alvin Rakoff. They had met the year before when she acted in a TV show he directed. It was a BBC version of an American play called Requiem for a Heavyweight.
After leaving Doctor Who in 1965, Jacqueline took a break from acting. She wanted to focus on raising her family. She had a daughter named Sasha and a son named John.
Jacqueline started acting again in 1979. She appeared in other TV shows, like Tales of the Unexpected. She also played Lady Capulet in the BBC's 1978 TV version of Romeo and Juliet.
Jacqueline Hill passed away in 1993 from bone cancer.
