Jacqueline Jules (born in 1956) is an American author and poet. She is known for writing many books for young readers, including popular series and award-winning stories.

About Jacqueline Jules

Jacqueline Jules was born in Petersburg, Virginia. She studied at the University of Pittsburgh and later at the University of Maryland. Since 1995, she has lived in Northern Virginia.

She has worked as a school librarian, a teacher, and a writer. Her experiences often inspire the stories she creates for kids.

Her Journey as an Author

Jacqueline Jules started her writing career in 1995. Her first book was The Grey Striped Shirt. This story is about the granddaughter of people who survived the Holocaust.

She has written many books for young readers. Some of these books share Jewish traditions and stories. They include The Hardest Word and Once Upon a Shabbos.

Award-Winning Books

Several of Jules's books have won special awards. Sarah Laughs, Benjamin and the Silver Goblet, and Never Say a Mean Word Again: A Tale from Medieval Spain all won a Sydney Taylor Honor Award.

Never Say a Mean Word Again was also a finalist for the National Jewish Book Award in 2014. These awards show how much people love her stories.

Stories from School Life

Many of Jules's books come from her time as an elementary school librarian. No English tells the story of two second-grade girls. They find a clever way to talk to each other despite a language barrier.

Duck for Turkey Day is about a Vietnamese-American child. She worries about her family's special Thanksgiving dinner. Unite or Die: How Thirteen States Became a Nation started as a play. She wrote it for her students to perform on Constitution Day.

The Zapato Power Series

Jacqueline Jules also created the Zapato Power chapter book series. This series is about a boy named Freddie Ramos. He has super-powered purple sneakers that let him outrun trains!

The idea for this series came from young students. They kept asking for a superhero book for early elementary readers.

Her Poetry

Besides books, Jules is also a poet. Her poems have been published in many magazines. These include Christian Science Monitor and BALLOONS Lit. Journal.

She has won several awards for her poetry. This includes the Arlington Arts Moving Words Contest.
