Jacqui Hurley, born on January 15, 1984, in County Cork, is a well-known sports broadcaster in Ireland. She works for RTÉ, which is Ireland's main TV and radio station. Jacqui often presents sports news and hosts popular shows like The Sunday Game and Up for the Match. She also used to co-host Sunday Sport on RTÉ Radio 1. Before becoming a broadcaster, Jacqui was a talented athlete herself. She played basketball and camogie (an Irish sport similar to hurling) at the highest level in Ireland. Today, she even helps manage the Irish under-16 girls basketball team.

Jacqui Hurley's Early Life
Jacqui Hurley grew up in Australia during the 1980s. Her parents are David and Mairead Hurley, and she has two siblings, Catriona and Sean. From a young age, Jacqui loved sports. She played basketball for Ireland and camogie for Cork. Later, she used her sports knowledge to become a manager for the Irish under-16 female basketball team.
Jacqui studied Media and Communication Studies at Mary Immaculate College (MIC). She graduated from there in 2006. When she was 17, Jacqui had a sports accident. She crashed into another player and was unable to move for a few days. Luckily, she fully recovered.
Jacqui Hurley's Career in Media
Television Work
After college, Jacqui Hurley spent some time working as an intern. She worked at CBS Television in Mississippi, United States. She was supposed to stay for eight months but ended up staying for a year. This experience helped her discover her passion for sports broadcasting.
Jacqui then worked in local radio before joining RTÉ in 2006. At RTÉ, she has done many different jobs. She reported for the sports show OB Sport. She also had a regular segment on the chat show Seoige. On Monday Night Soccer, she had a fun segment called "60 Sixty." In this part, she would ask a different footballer questions for sixty seconds.
Since November 2016, Jacqui has presented the sports quiz show Know The Score on RTÉ. On January 22, 2023, RTÉ announced exciting news. Jacqui Hurley became the new presenter of The Sunday Game highlights show. She took over from Des Cahill, a very well-known presenter.
Radio Work
Jacqui Hurley started her radio career at Live 95fm in Limerick. While working there, she covered Munster's big 2006 Heineken Cup win. This was a huge event in Irish rugby.
She also often appeared on The Colm & Jim-Jim Breakfast Show on RTÉ 2fm. Her sports blog was a popular feature on the show.
In early 2009, Jacqui made history at RTÉ Radio 1. She became the co-presenter of Sunday Sport alongside Con Murphy. At just 25 years old, she was the first female presenter in the show's 40-year history. In January 2023, Jacqui announced she would leave Sunday Sport. She decided to focus more on her TV work and spend time with her family after 14 years on the show.
Writing Books
Jacqui Hurley is also an author. Her first book is called Girls Play Too: Inspiring Stories of Irish Sportswomen. It was published in September 2020. This book is for children and has many illustrations. Girls Play Too celebrates some of Ireland's best female athletes. It shares their amazing stories to inspire young readers.
