Jaelene McKenzie Daniels (born May 28, 1993) is an American professional soccer player. She plays as a defender.

Early Life and High School Soccer

Jaelene Daniels grew up in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. She went to Valor Christian High School. There, she played both soccer and basketball.

In 2009, Jaelene was named the league's Player of the Year. She also made the all-conference team and the first team all-state. The Denver Post newspaper named her to the All-Colorado team.

During her last year in high school, 2010, she was the top scorer in her league. She earned all-conference, first team all-state, and All-Colorado honors again. She also received Parade All-American honors that year.

Club Soccer Career

Jaelene played club soccer for Real Colorado for four years. She was the team captain during the 2010–11 season. Her team won the state championship in 2007. She was also part of the Olympic Development Program (ODP) team. This team reached the regional championship in 2006.

Playing for Western New York Flash (2015–2016)

In 2015, Jaelene Daniels was chosen by the Western New York Flash in the 2015 NWSL College Draft. She was the seventh player picked overall. In her first season, she started all 20 games. She scored one goal while playing as a defender. The Flash finished seventh in the league that year.

In the 2016 NWSL season, Jaelene played in 15 games and scored one goal. She started in the semi-final game against the Portland Thorns. The Flash won this game, which was a big surprise. Jaelene also started in the Championship Game. The game went to penalty kicks. She scored her penalty, helping the Flash win the 2016 NWSL Championship.

Playing for North Carolina Courage (2017–2020)

In January 2017, the Western New York Flash team was sold. It moved to North Carolina and became the North Carolina Courage. Jaelene started in 22 games for the Courage in 2017. The North Carolina Courage won the 2017 NWSL Shield. However, they lost the NWSL Championship game 1–0 to Portland.

Jaelene was named to the NWSL Team of the Month in March and April 2018. She was a key player in North Carolina's defense. The team set a new record for the fewest goals allowed. They also won the NWSL Shield for the second year in a row. Jaelene played every minute of the Courage's playoff games. The Courage then won the 2018 NWSL Championship.

After the Courage won the 2019 NWSL Championship, Jaelene Daniels was nominated for NWSL Defender of the Year. On November 4, 2020, Jaelene announced she was retiring from soccer.

Returning to Play (2022)

On December 19, 2021, the North Carolina Courage announced that Jaelene Daniels had signed a new contract. This meant she was returning to play after her retirement. The team signed her for one year, with an option for another year.

On October 17, 2022, the Courage announced they would not offer Jaelene a contract for the 2023 season. This made her a free agent, meaning she could sign with any team.

International Soccer Career

In October 2015, Jaelene Daniels was invited to join the United States women's national soccer team. This was to prepare for games against Brazil. These games were part of the team's victory tour after winning the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup.

She played her first game for the national team on October 21 in Seattle. It was a friendly match against Brazil, and it ended in a 1–1 tie.

In 2016, Jaelene was on the team for the 2016 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Championship. She played in three games for the U.S. team. The U.S. won the tournament and qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics. She was also called up for the 2016 SheBelieves Cup. She did not play in any games, but the U.S. won this tournament too.

In June 2017, Jaelene was called to join the team for friendly games against Sweden and Norway. She did not attend, stating "personal reasons."

In July 2018, Jaelene Daniels was called to a training camp for the USWNT. This was for the 2018 Tournament of Nations. It was her first call-up since 2017. However, she was not chosen for the final team roster for the tournament. Since then, she has not been called up to the national team regularly.

Personal Life

Jaelene Daniels has spoken about her Christian faith. She is married to Matthew Daniels. She started using her married name, Daniels, in 2020. She gave birth to her daughter, Zoe, in August 2021.
