It has been translated into nine different languages.

Early Life and Education

Jaime Levy was born on March 8, 1966, in Hollywood, California. She grew up in the San Fernando Valley. In 1988, she earned her bachelor's degree from San Francisco State University.

Later, in 1990, she received her master's degree from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. She even taught there for seven years as a part-time professor. After that, she taught graduate courses on UX design at the University of Southern California (USC) for six years.

Jaime Levy's Career

Jaime Levy started her career in 1990. She created early digital magazines called Cyber Rag and Electronic Hollywood. These magazines were made using special computer programs like HyperCard and Macromedia Director. They were shared on small computer disks called floppy disks. She used her growing fame from newspapers and TV to sell more of these disks in stores and by mail.

Working with Music and Art

In 1993, Jaime Levy worked with EMI Records. She designed and programmed the first interactive press kit (IPK) for Billy Idol's Cyberpunk CD. An IPK is like a digital press release. This project had music, videos, text, and animations all put together.

After that, she created an animated electronic book called Ambulance. It was written by Monica Moran and featured music by Mike Watt from the band Minutemen. The art was done by Jaime Hernandez.

Online Magazines and Recognition

In 1994, while working for IBM, Jaime Levy started hosting "CyberSlacker" meetings. These were for programmers and animators at her home in East Village, Manhattan. By 1995, she became a creative director at Icon CMT. There, she focused on creating the online magazine WORD. This magazine became famous for its design and new ways of telling stories.

Newsweek magazine named her one of the top 50 people to watch in the digital world. She was also featured on Good Morning America as one of "The Most Powerful Twentysomethings in America."

Becoming a Consultant

When the "dot-com era" began (a time when many internet companies started), Levy became an independent consultant. In 1996, she designed a virtual world called Malice Palace. It used software called The Palace. In this online world, users could chat and interact with robots that looked like homeless people.

In 1997, her company, Electronic Hollywood, received an investment. For the next five years, her company focused on designing websites and creating online content. Their most famous project was the CyberSlacker Flash cartoon series, which won an award. She also appeared in the 1999 documentary film Home Page.

After the "dot-com bubble" burst (when many internet companies failed), she closed Electronic Hollywood. She then moved back to Los Angeles. From 2002 until today, she has been a university professor, author, and user experience design expert. In 2010, she started her second company, Jaime Levy Consulting. Her book UX Strategy was first published in 2015, and a second edition came out in 2021. The book teaches about how business plans and user experience design work together.
