Jaime Rolando Rosenthal Oliva (born May 5, 1936 – died January 12, 2019) was an important politician from Honduras. He was a leader in the Liberal Party of Honduras (PLH). He also ran for President several times. In 1974, he started a bank called Banco Continental.
Biography
Jaime Rosenthal's father, Yankel Rosenthal, came to Honduras from Romania in 1929. His father was Jewish. His mother, Esther Oliva, was from El Salvador.
Jaime Rosenthal went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He earned a degree in Civil Engineering. He also got a master's degree from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
He served as one of the Vice Presidents of Honduras. This was during the time José Azcona del Hoyo was President, from 1986 to 1989. He also worked as a Congressman in Honduras from 2002 to 2006. A study in 2006 named him as one of the most powerful people in Honduras.
Jaime Rosenthal passed away on January 12, 2019. He was 82 years old.
Grupo Continental
Banco Continental was a bank that Jaime Rosenthal founded in 1974. It was one of the largest banks in Honduras until it closed in late 2015.
The bank was part of a larger group of businesses called Grupo Continental. The Rosenthal family owned this group, which started in 1929.
