Life Story of Jake Hooker
Early Life and Moving to England
Jake Hooker was born in Haifa, Israel. When he was a child, his family moved to the United States. Later, in the 1970s, Jake moved to England.
Forming the Band Arrows
In 1972, Jake teamed up with his friend Alan Merrill. Alan was already well-known in Japan at that time. Together, they started a band called Streak. This band soon changed its name and became the famous Arrows.
The Arrows released several hit songs. These songs were produced by a well-known producer named Mickie Most.
The Song "I Love Rock 'n' Roll"
Alan Merrill wrote the famous song "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" for the Arrows. Jake Hooker also received a co-writer credit for the song. This song was written as a response to another popular song, "It's Only Rock 'n Roll (But I Like It)" by The Rolling Stones.
The Arrows recorded "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" in 1975. At first, it was released as a "B-side" song. This meant it was on the back side of a record, not the main song. However, it later became a huge rock classic!
The Arrows TV Show
The Arrows band was special because they had their very own weekly TV show. It was also called Arrows. The show was on the UK Granada ITV network. It featured many popular "glam rock" bands. Glam rock is a style of rock music known for its flashy costumes and theatrical performances.
Life After the Band
Jake Hooker married actress and singer Lorna Luft in London. They got married on Valentine's Day in 1977.
In 1978, the Arrows band broke up. Jake decided to stop being a musician. He moved to Los Angeles, California, to manage Lorna Luft's career.
Their marriage ended in 1993. After that, Jake continued to live in Los Angeles. He worked as a publisher, producer, and manager. He also started his own businesses.
