Jakolof Bay, Alaska facts for kids
Jakolof Bay is a small community located in the Kenai Peninsula Borough in Alaska, United States. In the year 2000, about 40 people called Jakolof Bay home. This quiet spot is found south of the city of Seldovia and across Kachemak Bay from another town called Homer.
Jakolof Bay is connected by a road to Seldovia. However, neither Jakolof Bay nor Seldovia can be reached by road from other parts of Alaska. This means they are quite isolated! There is also a simple gravel airstrip right on the beach. Sometimes, when the tide is very high, this airstrip goes underwater. Jakolof Bay was first counted as a special area for population surveys, called a census-designated place, during the 1980 Census.

Jakolof Bay first appeared on the U.S. Census in 1980. It was listed as a "census-designated place" (CDP), which is a specific area that the government counts for population. It was also counted as a CDP in 1990.
However, in 2000, Jakolof Bay was no longer considered a CDP on its own. Most of the area west of the bay became part of a new CDP called Seldovia Village. The parts of Jakolof Bay to the north, south, and east are now not included in any CDP.
