Jamar J. Wilson (born February 22, 1984) is an American-Finnish former professional basketball player. He played as a Point guard, which is a player who leads the team's offense. Jamar Wilson last played for Boulazac Basket Dordogne in France. After retiring from playing, he became an assistant coach for the Tapiolan Honka team.

Jamar Wilson's Early Basketball Years

High School Hoops and Championships

Jamar Wilson started his high school basketball journey in the Bronx, New York. He attended All Hallows High School for two years. Later, he moved to Our Savior New American School in Centereach, New York. In his final year, he was a key player. He helped his team, the Pioneers, win the 2002 NACA Division I Boys Basketball National Championship.

College Career at Albany University

From 2002 to 2007, Jamar Wilson played college basketball for Albany University. He quickly showed his talent. In his first year, he was named the best rookie in the America East Conference. He also earned a spot on the All-Conference second team.

After a break due to injury in the 2003–04 season, Wilson returned strong. He again made the All-Conference second team. For his last two seasons, he led the Great Danes to their first two appearances in the NCAA Division I tournament. He was named the America East Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year twice. He also won the MVP award for the America East Conference men's basketball tournament both years.

Wilson became a legend at Albany. He scored 2,164 points, which is the most in the school's history. He also set records for points in a single season and career free throws. His jersey number 31 was retired by Albany, a huge honor for a player.

Jamar Wilson's Professional Basketball Journey

Playing in Belgium (2007–2010)

In August 2007, Jamar Wilson began his professional career. He signed with VOO Wolves Verviers-Pepinster in Belgium. He played well, averaging many points per game. The next year, he joined Belgacom Liège Basket. In September 2009, he moved to Generali Okapi Aalstar. He continued to be a strong player in the Belgian league.

Time in Finland (2010–2011)

In September 2010, Wilson moved to Finland. He signed with Honka Espoo Playboys. He had some amazing games there. In one game, he scored 45 points, and two days later, he scored 44 points! He was a top scorer in the Finnish league.

Adventures in Australia (2011–2015)

On August 5, 2011, Jamar Wilson joined the Cairns Taipans in Australia's NBL league. He quickly became a fan favorite. He was named player of the week twice. He also finished second in the voting for the league's MVP award. He signed a new two-year deal with the Taipans in 2012. In March 2014, he scored a career-high 33 points in a game.

In July 2014, Wilson signed with the Adelaide 36ers. He continued to play at a high level. He won Player of the Week honors twice. He also received the Mark Davis Trophy as the 2015 Adelaide 36ers club MVP. Over four seasons in Australia, Wilson averaged many points, rebounds, and assists.

Playing in Europe Again (2015–2022)

After Australia, Wilson returned to Europe.

  • Finally, in March 2022, he joined Boulazac Basket Dordogne in France, where he finished his playing career.

Jamar Wilson's National Team Career

Jamar Wilson never played for the United States men's national basketball team. However, he gained Finnish citizenship in June 2015. This made him eligible to play for the Finland national basketball team. He made his first international appearance for Finland in August 2015.

Wilson was a key player for Finland at EuroBasket 2015. This is a major basketball tournament for European national teams. In his first game, he scored 21 points against France. He also helped Finland win against Bosnia and Herzegovina with 16 points. During the tournament, he averaged 12.0 points per game. He also played for Finland at EuroBasket 2017.

Jamar Wilson's Personal Life

Jamar Wilson's parents are Bobby Livingston and Carolyn Wilson. His cousin, Dyree Wilson, was also a college basketball player. His uncle, James "Pookie" Wilson, was a famous street basketball player in the Bronx.

Jamar is married to Laura Wilson (whose maiden name was Sario). Laura also used to play for the Finland national team. They met when they were both playing college basketball in the United States. Jamar became a Finnish citizen in 2015. He and Laura have a daughter named Fiona.
