Jamayne Taunoa-Brown (born 17 November 1996) is an Australian former professional rugby league player. He played as a prop, which is a forward position in rugby league.

Jamayne played for three different teams in the National Rugby League (NRL). These teams were the New Zealand Warriors, the St. George Illawarra Dragons, and the North Queensland Cowboys. He recently announced his retirement from the sport.

Early Life and Junior Rugby

Jamayne Taunoa-Brown was born in Melbourne, Australia. His family background is very interesting. His mother, Jaimie, is from South Australia and has Indigenous Australian heritage, specifically from the Kaurna and Narungga peoples. His father, Brandy, is from Napier, New Zealand, and has Māori heritage from the Ngāti Kahungunu tribe.

Jamayne started playing rugby league when he was young. He played for a junior team called the Altona Roosters. As he got older and showed more talent, he played for the junior representative teams of both the Melbourne Storm and the Newcastle Knights.

His Rugby League Journey

Jamayne's professional career began in 2020. He made his first appearance in the National Rugby League (NRL) for the New Zealand Warriors. This was in round 1 of the 2020 NRL season. He played against the Newcastle Knights.

Later that season, Jamayne scored his first ever try. This happened in round 3, during a game where the Warriors beat the St. George Illawarra Dragons. Scoring a try is a big moment for any rugby league player!

In July 2021, Jamayne joined the St. George Illawarra Dragons for a short time. This was a loan deal, meaning he played for them temporarily. After this, in October 2021, he left the Warriors permanently. He then signed a contract with the North Queensland Cowboys. He was set to play for them until the end of the 2023 season.

Jamayne also had the honor of representing the Indigenous All Stars team. He played in the All Stars match in both 2020 and 2022. This special game celebrates Indigenous culture and talent in rugby league.

Playing for the Cowboys

In the 2022 NRL season, Jamayne played 16 matches for the North Queensland Cowboys. The Cowboys had a great year, finishing third in the competition. This meant they made it to the finals! Jamayne also played two games for the Northern Pride, which is a feeder club for the Cowboys.

In the 2023 NRL season, Jamayne continued to play for the Cowboys. He made 17 appearances for the team that year.

Retirement from Rugby League

Jamayne faced some tough challenges in 2024. He missed the entire 2024 NRL season because of serious injuries to his Achilles tendons. These are important tendons in the back of your ankle.

On 20 November 2024, Jamayne announced that he was immediately retiring from professional rugby league. This was a difficult decision, but it was due to his ongoing injuries.
