James Edward Brown (born March 22, 1920 – died April 11, 1992) was an American actor. He starred in many movies and on TV. Many people remember him for playing Lt. Ripley Masters in the popular western TV show The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin.
Early Life and Acting Career
James Brown was born in Desdemona, Texas. He went to Baylor University where he played Tennis. He was quite good at it!
Brown started acting in 1941. His very first role was a small, uncredited part as a medic in the movie Ride, Kelly, Ride. He got his first credited role in 1942 in the film The Forest Rangers.
He appeared in many films throughout his career. Some of these included Air Force, Going My Way, Objective, Burma!, and Sands of Iwo Jima. He worked alongside many famous actors of his time.

Television Roles
In 1954, James Brown joined the cast of a new TV show called The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin. This was a western series on ABC. He played the important role of Lt. Ripley Masters. The show was very popular and ran until 1959.
After Rin Tin Tin ended, Brown appeared in many other TV shows. He was a guest star on shows like Gunsmoke, Lassie, and Murder, She Wrote.
From 1979 to 1986, he had a regular role on the famous TV show Dallas. He played Detective Harry McSween in 39 episodes.

Other Work
In the mid-1960s, James Brown took a break from acting for about ten years. During this time, he started his own company. His company made weight belts. Later, he sold his company to Faberge, a well-known brand. He then returned to acting in the 1970s.
Later Life and Death
James Brown passed away in April 1992. He was 72 years old. He died from lung cancer at his home in Woodland Hills, California. After his death, he was cremated.
