Education and Early Life
Jim Carroll studied at two well-known universities. He earned his first degree, a Bachelor of Arts (BA), from the University of Virginia. Jim Carroll has held several important jobs in the United States government. He worked as a top lawyer, known as General Counsel, for the Office of Management and Budget. This office helps the President manage the government's money and plans.
Working at the White House
Carroll also served as a lawyer in the Office of the White House Counsel. This office gives legal advice to the President. He worked for both President George W. Bush and President Donald Trump. Later, he became the White House Deputy Chief of Staff. This role is a very senior position, helping to manage the President's daily activities and staff.
Leading Drug Control Policy
On January 2, 2019, the U.S. Senate approved Jim Carroll for his role as Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy. This approval process is called "confirmation."
