James Woody is an American college football coach and a former player. He is known for his time as the head football coach at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. He coached there from 2011 to 2014. Before becoming a coach, Woody played college football as a quarterback at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio.

Playing Days and Early Coaching
James Woody played college football as a quarterback for the Central State Marauders from 1981 to 1984. After his playing career, he returned to Central State. He started coaching there in 1987. He worked as an offensive coordinator and quarterback coach until 1995.
Coaching Different Teams
Woody continued his coaching journey at other universities. From 1996 to 2005, he was the offensive coordinator for the Tuskegee Golden Tigers. He then moved to Jackson State, where he was the offensive coordinator from 2006 to 2009.
