Jamil Walker Smith (born August 20, 1982) is an American actor, director, producer, and writer. He is most famous for being the voice of Gerald Johanssen, a fourth grader and Arnold's best friend, in the popular Nickelodeon cartoon series Hey Arnold!. He also played Master Sergeant Ronald Greer in both seasons of the science fiction TV show Stargate Universe. Jamil has appeared in many other TV shows like Sister, Sister, Girlfriends, Bones, and The X-Files. Besides acting, he also writes, acts in, and directs his own short films.

Jamil Walker Smith's Life and Career
Early Life and First Roles
Jamil Walker Smith was born on August 20, 1982, in New York City, New York. He started acting professionally when he was just 6 years old. He performed in local theaters in Los Angeles. There, he was nominated for two NAACP Theatre Awards. He was also chosen as a California Arts Scholar.
Jamil's first acting job was at age 12. He was a guest star in an episode of the Fox sitcom The Sinbad Show. Later, he studied Theater Arts at SUNY Purchase college.

Voice Acting Fun
One of Jamil's most recognized roles is the voice of Gerald Johanssen in Hey Arnold!. Gerald is Arnold's best friend and often helps him with his adventures. Jamil voiced Gerald for 79 episodes of the show. He also voiced Gerald in the movies Hey Arnold!: The Movie (2002) and Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie (2017).
Live-Action Roles
Jamil also played a main character, Master Sergeant Ronald Greer, in the TV series Stargate Universe. This was a science fiction show where a team explored space on an ancient spaceship. He appeared in 40 episodes of the series.
He has also made guest appearances in many other popular TV shows. These include Sister, Sister, Girlfriends, Bones, and The Bernie Mac Show. In 2014, he had a recurring role on the soap opera General Hospital.
Behind the Camera: Directing and Writing
Besides acting, Jamil Walker Smith is also a talented director, producer, and writer. He wrote, directed, and paid for his own movie called The American Dream. For this film, he won the New Visions Award at the Cinequest festival. He also won Best Director at the Urbanworld Film Festival.
Jamil also wrote and directed a short film called The Son. This film premiered at Urbanworld. He later started a film company called Little Plow Films with Brittany Ballard. He continues to work on new film projects, both writing and directing. He even teaches acting to young students at Baldwin Hills Elementary School.
