Jamésie and Eeyou Istchee equivalent territories combined

Jamésie is a large area in Nord-du-Québec, Canada. It's like a big county or district. It's located east of James Bay, which is where it gets its name.

Jamésie is part of a bigger area called Nord-du-Québec. This larger area also includes Kativik and Eeyou Istchee. Jamésie is very big, covering about 283,955 square kilometers (that's a bit larger than the country of Ecuador!). In 2016, about 13,941 people lived there. The biggest town in Jamésie is Chibougamau.

Over time, the way Jamésie is managed has changed. In 2007, a new area called Eeyou Istchee was created. This meant Jamésie became a bit smaller and had fewer people. More changes happened in 2012 with an agreement about the Eeyou Istchee James Bay Territory. This new government is special because it's run together by the Cree people from Eeyou Istchee and the non-Cree people living in Jamésie.
