Jane McCarry is a Scottish actress and also a teacher. She is famous for playing two main characters. One is Isa Drennan in the TV show Still Game. The other is Granny Murray in the children's show Me Too!. Jane studied acting at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh.
Jane McCarry's Acting Career
Becoming Granny Murray
In 2006, Jane McCarry started appearing in the children's TV show Me Too!. She played Granny Murray, a kind childminder. The show was a bit like another popular show called Balamory. Granny Murray helped teach children about what their parents might be doing during the day. In each episode, Granny Murray would share a wise idea that helped solve a problem for one of the parents.
Other TV Roles
Jane McCarry also acted in the show Rab C Nesbitt. She played different characters in a few episodes. She was Andra's wife in one episode and a nurse in another.
Stage Performances
Jane has worked with the Baldy Bane Theatre Company in Glasgow. She also performs in plays sometimes at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre. In 2012, Jane was in a play called The Steamie at the King's Theatre, Glasgow.
Still Game Comeback
In 2014, Jane joined the rest of the cast of Still Game for a live show. Still Game is a very popular show that has won many awards. The live show was held at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow. It was so popular that they had 21 sold-out performances! Because the stage show was such a big hit, the BBC decided to bring Still Game back to TV. In 2016, Jane played her character Isa again in the new TV series.
Recent Stage Work
In 2018, Jane McCarry performed in Nativity! The Musical. This musical toured to different places, including The Kings Theatre in Glasgow.
Jane McCarry's Life
Jane McCarry grew up in the King's Park area of Glasgow. She is an only child. She has two sons, Iain and Alexander, with her former husband, Robert Gibson. Jane has said that she got some ideas for her character Isa from watching people in Robert's hometown of Rutherglen.
Jane McCarry's Teaching Career
Before becoming a full-time actress, Jane McCarry was a drama teacher. She taught drama at Shawlands Academy and St Pauls High School in Pollok for three years. She also taught at St Andrews RC Secondary School and the Glasgow Gaelic School.
