Jane Werner Watson, born Elsa Jane Werner (1915–2004), was a talented American author who wrote many books for children. You might know some of her stories from the famous Little Golden Books series! She used several different names for her books, like Jane Werner, Annie North Bedford, and Monica Hill.

About Her Life

Jane Werner was born on July 11, 1915, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Her father, Henry Charles Werner, was a doctor. Jane studied at the University of Wisconsin and earned her degree in 1936.

After college, Jane became one of the first editors for the popular Little Golden Books series. These books were published by Western Publishing and Simon & Schuster. She wrote about 150 books for this series! That's a lot of stories for kids to enjoy.

In 1954, Jane married Earnest C. Watson. He was a physicist from Caltech. They got married in Scotland. For a few years, they spent their weekends and holidays in Santa Barbara.

From 1960 to 1962, Earnest Watson worked for the United States Embassy in New Delhi, India. While living there, Jane and Earnest collected many beautiful Indian miniatures.
