Becoming an Artist

Janette Parris studied art at a famous school called Goldsmiths College. She earned her master's degree in Fine Art there in 1994. This helped her become the artist she is today.

Her Art Style

Janette Parris is known for her unique drawing style. She often creates art that tells a story, much like a comic strip. Her work often has a funny, clever, and sometimes a bit sarcastic humor. Her characters often look like they've stepped right out of a comic book! You can find her art displayed in many places across the United Kingdom.

Notable Art Projects

In 1998, Janette created an art project called Copyright. This installation used several videos and furniture items from a store called Habitat. It showed everyday situations that were described as "absurd, sad, funny" and very relatable.

In 2003, London Underground asked her to create art for their "Art on the Underground" program. This means her art was shown to many people traveling on the London subway!

Later, in 2010, her animated video called Talent was part of an exhibition at Tate Britain. This exhibition was called Rude Britannia.

In 2016, Janette Parris showed her art at Peckham Platform. For this exhibition, she spent time in 2015 talking to people in Peckham, like local residents, shop owners, and students. She then used their stories to create her artwork for the show.

More recently, in 2021, she had a solo exhibition called "A View without the Bridge: Janette Parris" at the Focal Point Gallery in Southend-on-Sea, Essex.

In 2023, her work was also featured in an exhibition called "Poor Things" at the Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh.
