Japan Society for the Promotion of Science facts for kids
The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) is an important organization in Japan. It is also known as Gakushin. The JSPS works like a special government agency.
Its main goal is to help all kinds of studies grow. This includes natural sciences, social sciences, and the humanities (like history and art).
How the JSPS Began
The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science was started in 1932. Emperor Shōwa helped set it up by giving money. People were very interested in how science developed, which also led to the creation of JSPS.
Over time, JSPS grew alongside other groups. These included the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers. The Japanese government has always supported the JSPS. In 1967, it became a semi-governmental group. This means it was partly run by the government. Later, in 2003, it became an independent administrative institution. This gave it more freedom to manage its own work.
What the JSPS Does
The JSPS has many programs to help science and learning. Its main jobs are:
- To help young scientists and researchers grow.
- To encourage scientists from different countries to work together.
- To give money (grants) for new scientific research.
- To help universities and businesses work together on science projects.
- To gather and share information about scientific discoveries.
