John Paul Lizardo (born June 8, 1986), known as Japoy Lizardo, is a famous Filipino former taekwondo player. He was part of the Philippine National Team. Besides being a great athlete, he has also worked as an actor and a commercial model.

About Japoy Lizardo
Japoy Lizardo was born on June 8, 1986. He grew up in Cabanatuan City. In 2012, he received the "Anak ng Cabanatuan" award. This award honored him for his strong connection to the city.
Japoy's Education
Japoy Lizardo went to Pasig Catholic College for his early studies. Later, he attended De La Salle University - College of Saint Benilde for college.
Japoy's Taekwondo Journey
Japoy Lizardo started learning taekwondo when he was 11 years old. Just one year later, he earned his black belt. This is a very high achievement in taekwondo.
Joining the National Teams
At age 12, Japoy joined the Philippine Black Belt contingent. This was a special national team for students. When he was 14, he became part of the Philippine junior national team. He started competing in big international events. These included the Korean Open and the Asian Junior Championship. By the time he was 18, Japoy was a member of the senior national team.
Major Achievements
Japoy Lizardo first became well-known at the 2001 Asian Junior Taekwondo Championships. He won a silver medal in the men's finweight category.
He continued to win many medals in his senior career. He earned three medals (two silver and one bronze) at the Asian Taekwondo Championships. He also competed in the World Taekwondo Championships in 2007 and 2009.
Japoy also won two gold medals at the Southeast Asian Games. He won gold in 2005 in Manila and again in 2011 in Indonesia. He also earned a bronze medal at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou.
Life After Competing
Japoy Lizardo stopped competing in taekwondo in November 2015. He had a leg injury that led to his retirement from the Philippine men's taekwondo team.
He was one of 14 athletes who received scholarships. These scholarships came from the Olympic Solidarity Movement. This program is supported by the Philippine Olympic Committee.
By 2016, Japoy Lizardo became the head coach of the Philippine national taekwondo team. He now helps train new taekwondo stars.
Japoy's Family Life
Japoy Lizardo is married to Janice Lagman. She is also a taekwondo artist. They got married on May 8, 2016.
On August 11, 2016, they shared exciting news on Instagram. They announced they were going to have their first child. Their first child was born on February 25, 2017.
