Jardines del Bosque facts for kids
The neighborhood of Jardines del Bosque is located in the western part of the city of Guadalajara. This city is in the state of Jalisco, Mexico.
A Planned Community
This neighborhood was designed by a famous Mexican architect named Luis Barragán in 1955. He was known for his unique Modernist style. Jardines del Bosque was built on land that used to be a forest called "Santa Edwiges" woods.
The "Garden City" Idea
The idea behind Jardines del Bosque was to create a "Garden City." This means a community with lots of green spaces and a connection to nature. However, building this neighborhood meant cutting down many trees from the original woods. This is called deforestation. Because of this, the project was not fully supported by Jorge Matute, who was the mayor of Jalisco at the time. Even with some disagreement, the neighborhood was still built.
Entrance Design
The main entrance to Jardines del Bosque is on the northern side. It was designed in 1957. Luis Barragán worked with another artist, Mathias Goeritz, to create a special sculpture for this entrance.
