Jarell Martin (born May 24, 1994) is an American professional basketball player. He currently plays for the Adelaide 36ers in Australia's NBL. Before becoming a pro, he played college basketball for the LSU Tigers. The Memphis Grizzlies picked him in the 2015 NBA draft. He spent four seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Jarell has won championships in both Australia and Israel.

High School Basketball Star
Jarell Martin was a top basketball player in high school. He was chosen as a McDonald's All-American in 2013. This is a special honor for the best high school players in the country. He was the first player from LSU's coach Johnny Jones to get this award.
Jarell also won the 2013 Louisiana Mr. Basketball award. This award goes to the best player in the state of Louisiana each year. Experts like ESPN.com thought he was a five-star recruit. They said he was the third-best power forward and the eleventh-best player overall in 2013.
College Basketball Journey
Freshman Year at LSU
Jarell played his first year of college basketball at LSU. He started in 25 of their 34 games. On average, he scored 10.3 points and grabbed 4.6 rebounds per game. He was one of the best freshmen in the SEC conference for scoring and rebounding. He scored 10 or more points in 12 games during SEC play. Because of his great performance, he was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team.
Sophomore Year Success
In his second year, Jarell became an even stronger player. He led LSU by scoring 16.9 points per game. He also got more rebounds, averaging 9.2 per game. He scored a career-high 28 points against Florida on February 21. He had 15 "double-doubles," which means he got double digits in two stats (like points and rebounds) in one game. His strong play helped the Tigers reach the NCAA Tournament.
On March 25, 2015, Jarell decided to enter the NBA draft. This meant he would leave college two years early to become a professional player.
Professional Basketball Career
Starting with the Memphis Grizzlies (2015–2018)
The Memphis Grizzlies picked Jarell Martin as the 25th player in the 2015 NBA draft. This was on June 25, 2015. Soon after, he had a foot injury that kept him from playing in the Summer League. He signed his first NBA contract in July. However, he hurt his foot again in September.
Jarell finally played his first NBA game on December 18, 2015. His playing time increased later in the season. On March 9, 2016, he scored a career-high 16 points against the Boston Celtics. During his first year, he also played some games for the Iowa Energy. This team was part of the NBA's minor league, called the D-League (now G League).
In his second season, Jarell started his first NBA game on October 30, 2016. He had his first "double-double" with 11 points and 12 rebounds on November 28, 2016. He continued to play some games for the Iowa Energy.
During the 2017–18 season, Jarell played in 73 games for the Grizzlies. He started 36 of those games. He averaged 7.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. He scored 10 or more points 23 times. He also had a career-high 20 points against the Los Angeles Lakers. He grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Time with the Orlando Magic (2018–2019)
On July 23, 2018, Jarell was traded to the Orlando Magic. He played in 42 games for them during the 2018–19 season. He averaged 2.7 points and 1.7 rebounds per game. After this season, he signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers but was later released.
Playing Overseas and in the G League
Jarell then went to play for the Shenzhen Aviators in China in December 2019. After that, he joined the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the NBA G League in February 2020.
Winning in Australia with the Sydney Kings (2020–2022)
On December 2, 2020, Jarell signed with the Sydney Kings in Australia's NBL. He had a great first season, averaging 18 points and seven rebounds per game.
He stayed with the Kings for the 2021–22 season. Jarell helped the team win the NBL championship in May 2022. This was a big win for him and the team!
Championship in Israel with Maccabi Tel Aviv (2022–2023)
On July 4, 2022, Jarell signed a two-year contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel. He played in 38 EuroLeague games, averaging 7.2 points and 3.5 rebounds. He helped Maccabi Tel Aviv win the Israeli League championship in 2023. His contract ended in July 2023.
Playing in Turkey and Returning to Australia
On July 20, 2023, Jarell signed with Galatasaray Ekmas in Turkey. Unfortunately, he suffered a knee injury in December 2023.
On August 1, 2024, Jarell signed with the Adelaide 36ers in Australia. He is currently recovering from his knee injury and also dealing with a foot problem. He is expected to return to play in November 2024.
