Jarell Montrel Martin (born May 24, 1994) is an American professional basketball player. He plays as a power forward. Martin last played for the Suwon KT Sonicboom in the Korean Basketball League (KBL).

He played college basketball for the LSU Tigers. In 2015, the Memphis Grizzlies picked him 25th in the 2015 NBA draft. Martin played four seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He spent three years with the Grizzlies and one with the Orlando Magic.

Later, Martin joined the Sydney Kings in Australia's NBL. He helped them win an NBL championship in 2022. In 2023, he won an Israeli League championship with Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Jarell Martin was one of the best young basketball players in the country. He was chosen as a McDonald's All-American in 2013. This is a special honor for top high school players.

He also won the 2013 Mr. Basketball award. This award goes to the best player in Louisiana each year. Experts at ESPN.com thought he was a five-star recruit. They ranked him as the third-best power forward and the 11th-best player overall in 2013.

College Basketball Career

Jarell Martin played college basketball for the LSU Tigers. He played there for two seasons.

Freshman Year Highlights

In his first year, Martin started 25 out of 34 games for LSU. He scored about 10.3 points per game. He also grabbed 4.6 rebounds per game. He was one of the top freshmen in the SEC conference for scoring and rebounding.

He played even better in SEC games, scoring 11.4 points per game. Because of his strong performance, he was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team.

Sophomore Year Success

In his second year, Martin became a team leader. He led LSU with 16.9 points per game. He also improved his rebounding, getting 9.2 rebounds per game. He scored a career-high 28 points in a game against Florida.

He had 15 "double-doubles" that season. A double-double means getting double-digit numbers in two stats, like points and rebounds. Martin helped his team reach the NCAA Tournament. After his sophomore year, on March 25, 2015, he decided to enter the NBA draft. This meant he would not play his last two years of college.

Professional Basketball Journey

Memphis Grizzlies (2015–2018)

The Memphis Grizzlies picked Jarell Martin 25th overall in the 2015 NBA draft. This happened on June 25, 2015. Soon after, he found out he had a stress fracture in his foot. This injury kept him from playing in the Summer League.

He signed his first NBA contract on July 10. But less than two months later, he hurt his left foot again. He fractured it after bumping into another player. Martin made his NBA debut on December 18, 2015. His playing time increased later in the season. On March 9, 2016, he scored a career-high 16 points against the Boston Celtics. During his first year, he also played for the Iowa Energy. This team was the Grizzlies' minor league affiliate.

On October 30, 2016, Martin started his first NBA game. He scored four points and got five rebounds. On November 28, 2016, he achieved his first career double-double. He had 11 points and 12 rebounds. He also played for the Iowa Energy during the 2016–17 season.

In November 2017, Martin played some games for the Memphis Hustle. This was another minor league team. During the 2017–18 season, Martin played in 73 games for the Grizzlies. He started 36 of those games. He averaged 7.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. He scored 10 or more points 23 times. He also had a career-high 20 points against the Los Angeles Lakers. He grabbed 10 or more rebounds five times. This included a career-high 14 rebounds.

Orlando Magic (2018–2019)

On July 23, 2018, Martin was traded to the Orlando Magic. He played 42 games for the Magic during the 2018–19 season. He averaged 2.7 points and 1.7 rebounds per game. On August 16, 2019, Martin signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, the Cavaliers released him on October 19, 2019.

Playing in China and the G League (2019–2020)

On December 5, 2019, Martin joined the Shenzhen Aviators in China. He played in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). On January 14, 2020, he was replaced on the team. On February 1, 2020, Martin was acquired by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. This team plays in the NBA G League.

Sydney Kings (2020–2022)

On December 2, 2020, Martin signed with the Sydney Kings. This team plays in Australia's NBL. He averaged 18 points and seven rebounds per game in his first season. On June 26, 2021, he signed again with the Kings. He helped the Kings win the NBL championship in May 2022.

Maccabi Tel Aviv (2022–2023)

On July 4, 2022, Martin signed a two-year deal with Maccabi Tel Aviv. This team plays in the Israeli Premier League. He played in 38 EuroLeague games. He averaged 7.2 points and 3.5 rebounds in those games. His contract with the team ended on July 17, 2023.

Galatasaray (2023–2024)

On July 20, 2023, Martin signed with Galatasaray Ekmas. This team plays in Turkey's Basketbol Süper Ligi (BSL). In December 2023, he suffered a serious injury. He tore a tendon in his right knee during a BSL game.

Adelaide 36ers (2024–2025)

On August 1, 2024, Martin signed with the Adelaide 36ers. This team is also in Australia's NBL. He had recovered from his knee injury. However, he had a foot problem during the pre-season. This kept him from playing until November 2024.

Suwon KT Sonicboom (2025)

On March 10, 2025, Martin signed with the Suwon KT Sonicboom. This team is in the Korean Basketball League. He joined the team to replace another player. On March 19, his registration with the team was complete. However, on March 24, he was ruled out for the rest of the 2024–25 season. He had suffered a stress fracture in his toe. Another player replaced him on the team.
