Jarrahwood's Past: A Look Back
The town of Jarrahwood got its name from a company. This company was called the Jarrah Wood and Saw Mills Company. They used to run a private railway line in the area. The government later bought this railway in 1906.
Jarrahwood officially became a town in 1932. Many people moved away after the local timber mill closed down in 1982. Before the mill closed, Jarrahwood was much bigger. A newspaper report from that time said the town had two schools and a hospital. It also had a large town hall and many different shops. There was even a post office and about 50 homes for the company workers.
