History of the Park's Name
The park first opened in 1953. Over the next few years, it grew bigger.
How the Name Changed
When the park first started, it was called Gerald Cove State Park. But in 1966, a local group called the Hartstene Island Grange asked for the name to be changed. They wanted it spelled correctly as "Jarrell Cove," and so it was!
