Early Life and Joining a Political Party
Jarvis Tyner was born in 1941. His hometown was West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He went to West Philadelphia High School. When he was 20 years old, he joined the Communist Party USA.
After school, Tyner worked in different jobs. He was a member of worker groups called unions. In 1967, he moved to New York. There, he became a leader of youth groups. These groups were connected to the Communist Party.
Running for Vice President
Jarvis Tyner ran for Vice President of the U.S. in 1972. He ran again in 1976. He was on the Communist Party ticket both times. The main candidate for President was Gus Hall.
A Voice for Change
Tyner was a public speaker for the Communist Party USA. He spoke out against racism. He also spoke against imperialism, which is when one country tries to control others. He was against war as well.
Tyner also wrote for the party's magazines. These included Political Affairs Magazine and People's World. He has been an important voice for the party's ideas. He lives in New York City.
