Jaume Busquets facts for kids
Jaume Busquets i Mollera (born in Girona, 1903 – died in Barcelona, 1968) was a talented Spanish artist. He was a sculptor and a painter from Catalonia.
He was part of an art movement called noucentisme. This movement focused on classical art and order. Jaume was the youngest of four brothers, all of whom were artists. Their family came from Girona, a city in Spain.
Busquets learned from the famous architect Antoni Gaudí. He created important sculptures for Gaudí's amazing Sagrada Familia Basilica in Barcelona. He also sculpted a beautiful statue of the Blessed Virgin with Child for the Girona Cathedral.
Early Life and Career
Jaume Busquets was a very gifted young artist. When he was just fifteen years old, he started working. He joined the studio of Darius Vilas in Barcelona. This was an important step in his artistic journey.
Major Works
In his later years, Busquets focused mostly on sculpting. He created some of his most famous artworks during this time.
One of his masterpieces is the Jesus, Maria i Josep group. He finished this in 1958. These sculptures are the main part of the Nativity Façade at Gaudí's Sagrada Familia.
Another important work is the Mare de Deu statue. He completed this in 1962. This beautiful statue decorates the front of the Girona Cathedral.
