Javier Ambrossi's Early Life
Javier Ambrossi was born in Madrid, Spain. He studied Journalism at the Complutense University of Madrid. He also learned about writing for plays at the Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático. His younger sister, Macarena García, is also a well-known actress.
Javier Ambrossi's Career Highlights
Ambrossi started his acting journey in the early 2000s. He played small parts in many Spanish TV shows. Some of these included El comisario, Amar en tiempos revueltos, and Cuéntame cómo pasó. His most recognized roles were as Gustavo in Sin tetas no hay paraíso and Cristiano in Ciega a citas. He also acted in plays like El enemigo de la clase.
Creating the Musical La llamada
Since 2013, Ambrossi has been co-directing La llamada (meaning "The Call"). This musical is performed at the Teatro Lara in Madrid. He created it with his partner, Javier Calvo. In 2015, a version of La llamada opened in Mexico City.
Holy Camp! Film Adaptation
In 2017, the musical was made into a movie, also called La llamada in Spanish. Ambrossi and Calvo co-directed this film. It is about two teenage girls at a summer camp run by nuns. The movie is known as Holy Camp! in English.
Success with Paquita Salas
In 2016, Ambrossi and Calvo created the web series Paquita Salas. They first made it to practice their filmmaking skills. The show became very popular, and Netflix bought the rights to it. There are currently three seasons, with more planned.

Creating Veneno and Suma Content
In 2020, Ambrossi and Calvo created Veneno. This TV series tells the life story of a famous transgender icon. The show was very successful in Spain. It quickly became one of the most-watched shows on its platform. Variety magazine even named Veneno one of the best international series of 2020.

In 2023, Ambrossi and Calvo released La mesías. This family thriller series was shown at the 71st San Sebastián International Film Festival. It tells the story of a man dealing with childhood religious trauma. He is affected by a viral video of a Christian pop group. This project is considered their most ambitious work yet.
They also created Vestidas de azul in 2023. This drama series is a spin-off from Veneno. It continues the story two years later. The show explores what happened to six transgender women featured in an old documentary. Ambrossi hopes the series will bring them fame, respect, and affection.
Hosting the Goya Awards
In February 2024, Ambrossi co-hosted the 38th Goya Awards. He shared this role with Javier Calvo and actress Ana Belén. Through all their work, Ambrossi and Calvo are helping to make the LGBTQ+ community more visible in mainstream media.

Javier Ambrossi's Personal Life
Javier Ambrossi has been in a relationship with actor and director Javier Calvo since 2010. They are often called "los Javis" by the public. They are very active on social media. They even proposed to each other at a movie premiere in Madrid. Both of them have a matching tattoo that says "Lo hacemos y ya vemos." This means "we'll do it and we'll see," which is also a song title from their musical La llamada.
