Javier Suárez Bernaldo de Quirós, born in Madrid, Spain, in 1966, is a well-known Spanish economist. He is famous for his special work on financial crises. These are times when big money problems happen, like when banks struggle or people lose a lot of money.

Javier Suárez's Journey in Economics

Javier Suárez studied economics at the Complutense University of Madrid. He earned his first degree there in 1989. Later, he continued his studies at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, where he completed his doctorate in 1994.

After his studies, he went to Harvard University in 1994 as a postdoctoral fellow. This means he did advanced research after getting his doctorate. From 1994 to 1996, he worked as a lecturer in economics at the London School of Economics.

Where He Works Now

Today, Javier Suárez is a professor at CEMFI. This is a special center in Spain called the Center for Monetary and Financial Studies. He also works with other important groups. These include the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI). He also helps with the Review of Finance magazine.
