Javier de Viana (born August 5, 1868 – died October 5, 1926) was an important Uruguayan writer. He is known for his stories and novels about life in the countryside.

Javier de Viana was connected to the National Party (Uruguay). This political group was very popular in the countryside of Uruguay. Because he was involved in a Civil War that happened off and on until 1904, Javier de Viana had to leave his home. He lived in Argentina for several years as an exile.

Javier de Viana wrote many books and stories about life in the countryside. His works often showed what it was like to live and work on farms in Uruguay. Some of his well-known books include:
