Early Life and First Performances

Jay Douglas was born in Jamaica. He grew up in Montego Bay, Jamaica, where he first started performing music. In 1963, when he was a teenager, he moved to Toronto to live with his mother.

When he first came to Canada, Jay Douglas performed at Central Technical School in Toronto. He was a student there at the time.

Jay Douglas's first professional music group was called The Cougars. They played funk music, which is a lively and rhythmic style.

Reggae Lane Mural
