Jay Edwards (born January 3, 1969) is an American former professional basketball player. He was known for his amazing skills on the court, especially his smooth jump shot. Jay played for the Indiana Hoosiers in college and was drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA.

High School Success

Jay Edwards grew up in Muncie, Indiana. He later became a basketball sensation in Marion, Indiana. In high school, he played for the Marion Giants. Jay and his teammate, Lyndon Jones, led their team to win three state championships in a row. This amazing achievement was known as the "Purple Reign." This name came from the school's colors, which were purple and gold.

In 1987, Jay Edwards was given the special title of Indiana's "Mr. Basketball". He shared this award with Lyndon Jones. During his high school years, Jay earned the nickname "Silk." This was because of his incredibly smooth and graceful jump shot.

College Career at Indiana

After high school, Jay Edwards went on to play college basketball for the Indiana Hoosiers. He played there for two seasons. He continued to play alongside his high school teammate, Lyndon Jones, at Indiana University.

Jay quickly became a star player. In his first year, 1988, he was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year. This award recognized him as the best first-year player in the Big Ten Conference.

In his second year, Jay's skills really shined. He averaged 20.0 points per game. He also set a school record by making a three-pointer in 20 consecutive games. His excellent play helped the Hoosiers win the Big Ten title in 1989. That same year, he was recognized as the Big Ten Player of the Year. He was also named an All-American, which means he was one of the best college players in the entire country.

Jay Edwards still holds an impressive NCAA record. He has the highest three-point field goal shooting percentage for a freshman in a single season, at 53.6%.

Professional Basketball Journey

After just two seasons at Indiana University, Jay Edwards decided to enter the NBA draft. In the 1989 NBA draft, he was chosen by the Los Angeles Clippers. He was the 33rd player picked overall, in the second round.

Jay played in only four games for the Clippers in his NBA career. After his time in the NBA, he continued to play professional basketball for many years. He played for various teams in the CBA and other leagues in the United States. He also played overseas in different countries.
