Javier Manuel "Jay" Hernandez (born February 20, 1978) is an American actor. He is known for his roles in many movies and TV shows. He first appeared on TV in Hang Time. Later, he starred in films like Crazy/Beautiful and Suicide Squad. From 2018 to 2024, he played Thomas Magnum in the TV show Magnum P.I..

Jay Hernandez's Early Life
Jay Hernandez was born on February 20, 1978. His birthplace was Montebello, California, in the U.S. His mother, Isis, worked as a secretary and accountant. His father, Javier Hernandez Sr., was a mechanic. Jay has a younger sister named Amelia. He also has two older brothers, Michael and Gabriel.
When Jay was 14, he met Daniella Deutscher, who would later become his wife. She was 17 at the time. He went to Don Bosco Technical Institute for a while. Then, he moved to Schurr High School for his last year of high school.
A talent manager named Howard Tyner discovered Jay. This happened while Jay was riding an elevator in Los Angeles. Tyner thought Jay had what it takes to be a successful actor in Hollywood. He helped Jay enroll in acting school. He also sent Jay's photos to people who cast actors for movies and TV shows.

Jay Hernandez started his acting career in television. From 1998 to 2000, he played Antonio Lopez. This was on the NBC series Hang Time.
First Big Movie Roles
His first major movie role was in 2001. He starred with Kirsten Dunst in the film Crazy/Beautiful. After that, he appeared in several big Hollywood movies. He had lead roles in films like Carlito's Way: Rise to Power. He also starred in the 2005 horror film Hostel. Another important role was in World Trade Center. In 2010, he was in the action film Takers.
In 2005, Jay played Carlito Brigante in Carlito's Way: Rise to Power. This movie was a prequel to the 1993 film Carlito's Way. He also played Paxton in the horror film Hostel (2005). He returned for its sequel, Hostel: Part II, in 2007.
Recent Film and TV Work
In 2015, Jay appeared in the movie Max. He played a U.S. military sergeant. His character was assigned to a rescue dog named Max. The dog was sad because its previous handler had passed away.
In 2016, he starred in the comedy film Bad Moms as Jessie Harkness. That same year, he played El Diablo in the superhero film Suicide Squad. El Diablo is a character with special powers.
On February 20, 2018, Jay was cast as Thomas Magnum. This was for the CBS drama series Magnum P.I. reboot. The show first aired on September 24, 2018. It ran for four seasons before being canceled in May 2022. However, NBC picked up the show for two more seasons in June of that year.
