Jayantha Chandrasiri Jayasuriya is a very important lawyer from Sri Lanka. He is known as a PC, which is a special title for experienced lawyers. Since June 5, 2025, he has been working as Sri Lanka's Permanent Representative to the United Nations. This means he represents Sri Lanka at the UN.
Before this, he was the 47th Chief Justice of Sri Lanka. He held this top judicial role from April 29, 2019, until October 10, 2024. The Constitutional Council approved his appointment. He was sworn in by President Maithripala Sirisena. He also served as the 45th Attorney General of Sri Lanka from January 11, 2016, to April 29, 2019.

About Jayantha Jayasuriya's Journey
Jayantha Jayasuriya became an Attorney-at-Law in Sri Lanka's Supreme Court in 1982. An Attorney-at-Law is a lawyer who can represent people in court. He started his career in the Attorney General’s Department. This department gives legal advice to the government.

He held several important positions in the Attorney General's Department. These included State Counsel, Senior State Counsel, Deputy Solicitor General, and Additional Solicitor General. Each step meant more responsibility in legal matters. He became the Attorney General after these roles.

Jayantha Jayasuriya studied at Maliyadeva College. This is where he got his early education. He then went on to study law at the Sri Lanka Law College. This is where he learned to become a lawyer.

Becoming a Permanent Representative
On March 21, 2025, a special committee in Sri Lanka's Parliament suggested he be appointed to this role. The president confirmed his appointment on May 15, 2025. On June 5, 2025, he officially started his job. He gave his letter of credence to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres. This letter is a formal document. It shows that he is the official representative of Sri Lanka.
